OK, they’re not quite finished, but rather than put off the great unveiling for yet another day, here they are.

The end panel is fixed and the gates themselves can be bolted and padlocked.
On hot days, we can now confidently leave the door and back gate open for Maggie to come and go as she pleases (or not ↓  )

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Will they stay natural wood, or they going to be stained? Painted?

    • Hubby has coated the posts and plywood backs with a wood hardener, then he intends to use a wood preservative on the gates themselves. There are a couple of other things to add yet, like the alternative to our wrong way catch, but overall, I’m really pleased with the end result. He’s worked hard to get everything lined up and to fit. The total gap is over 16 feet but the drive slopes away from the house and down towards the road as well, so custom made was the way to go. He’s also received some lovely compliments from the neighbours and passers-by.

    I’m impressed.

    Good job! And functional, too.

  4. They look great! And lucky Maggie – it’s nice for her to have the option to go out when she pleases, even if she is old enough not to want to do so all the time.
