This week, Frank asks us to make our post Shine to the max, whether it is the light shining or the bright shine of a smile or something, to which we just took a shining…
I remember seeing the 2007 film Stardust with the main song by Take That called Rule the World. It’s a fairy story about magic, love, humour, pirates and spells.
It covers sibling rivalry for power, betrayal, hopes, dreams, expectations.
It’s about a star and how it shines. It’s about witches who want the power of that shine for eternal youth. It’s about how losing the one we love takes the shine out of our life.
I also remember seeing an old black and white movie called The Enchanted Cottage, starring Robert Young and Dorothy McGuire. Made in 1945 it’s a love story about a disfigured pilot who rents a cottage and falls in love with the ‘plain’ housekeeper.
I’ll warn you now, it’s a weepy, but the two leads shine as their love develops, the camera projecting that hazy glow around them. No-one else can see it and at one stage the film reverts to ‘ordinary’ showing them as they are seen by other people and not how they see each other.
Hubby and I are like fish out of water when we’re apart, two individuals but something important lacking around us. I’m not saying we shine when we’re together, but we’re fortunate to have that contented ‘old pair of slippers’ syndrome. His smile can light up my day.
