Thursday photo prompt: Fallen #writephoto

This is my contribution to Sue Vincent’s challenge this week:

‘I’m cold and afraid.’
‘Don’t worry, my darling. I’ll look after you. They won’t find us.’
‘Are you sure? It seems we’ve been running for days.’
‘I know, my love. But we’ll be safe soon, I promise.’
‘I’m tired. Can’t we rest for a while?’
‘Just a little further. You see that ridge up there under the trees? We’ll be able to see if anyone’s coming.’

The pair stumbled to the top, and fell to their knees, totally exhausted.
He put his arm around her.
‘I’ve been saving this,’ he said. ‘Come, drink. Everything will be alright now.’
The two shared what was in his flask.
‘Sleep now. Rest your head on my shoulder, and close your eyes.’
Feeling drowsy, she did as he bid.
He prayed that the potion he had been given would quickly take effect as they slept.

The Stones were referred to as Sentinels of the Valley.
Legend had it a Prince and his Princess had escaped certain death from invading forces by  taking a potion which turned them to stone the moment they fell asleep. The Prince had selected this particular spot for their final resting place as they could see for miles, but were hidden by the trees from those that approached.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
