We were up early again this morning and this time decided to walk through the park rather than along the prom.
We met up with several people we’ve come to know, getting into conversation about the ducklings and goslings this year and of those past.
Apparently last year there were hundreds of ducklings, but each clutch was lucky if one or two survived as crows, gulls and magpies picked off the little ones.
I’m glad I’m not the only one counting the ducklings, and Momma Duck still has her 11.
She’s having a job keeping them altogether though as they are paddling all over the place, and I could only capture 9 with her as the other 2 were over the far side of the lake!
The geese however have joined ranks as expected, so now there are at least four adults in close proximity of the 14 goslings.
There are only 12 visible in the above picture, but they are all present and accounted for as you can see immediately below.
All fourteen are present in the following two pictures but this is my favourite from today’s batch:
On a different note, you may remember when we first came here I said there were no fish in the lake (the sign actually says that).
My pictures aren’t very clear as the sun was shining on the water and I don’t have filters on my camera, but it would appear that the lake is home to some pretty large goldfish!
As with the Mirror Carp on the marina, the hot weather is bringing them to the surface to oxygenate as the water is so still underneath.
