Friday Fictioneers: 20th April

Here are the details of this week’s 100 word or less challenge:

And this is our photo prompt provided by Douglas M. MacIlroy

Coming home, the familiar truck was there and as they ambled through the gate, they looked forward to their reward.
To their dismay, the feeders were empty.
Water was readily available, but there was no hay.
It had already been noticed that the bales were getting smaller, but at least they had been fed regularly through the winter.
The bull charged the foreman who took refuge in his truck. The beast glared at him in accusatory disgust through the windscreen.
The cows cheered him on.
Damn cutbacks. They were all feeling the pinch, but this really was the last straw.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I started thinking they were feeding deer so they could more easily shoot them…
I’m a tad relieved that it’s just tough times (if that makes any sense).

This is so funny! When I first saw this picture, I thought maybe it was some kind of feeder for livestock, but it didn’t seem big enough for that job.

  4. Iain Kelly says:

Hahaha, the last straw! Very good 🙂

  5. pennygadd51 says:

That’s an excellent story, nicely constructed and a cracking punchline. Farmer will be down at the bank tomorrow looking for a bigger overdraft…

  6. jillyfunnell says:

Good play on words at the end.

  7. lisarey1990 says:
