Breathe in the open spaces.
Oh how we loved the woods and the river to do just that.
Space was at a maximum with the minimum of human presence.
It was our own little world, time didn’t matter.
The woods are not as they were, the smell no longer of new growth but damp with decay.

On the river, the morning mist had a smell all of its own, you could breathe in and be one with nature, it was so clear and crisp away from the towns and traffic.

At festival time, you relished in the freedom of the boating life, made new friends, and picked up a few tips. Your nostrils were tantalised with the aroma of BBQ, herbs and spices, hot coffee, doughnuts and if it was a little chilly, wood burners!

Just love those photos, especially the early morning one in Pershore!
We had several mornings like that on our travels. Pershore is the deepest lock on the Avon and it’s really hard work operating the paddles and gates as they’re so heavy. It’s just so idyllic there, you don’t even mind getting mugged by the ducks!
