Over to Rachel:
‘You’re late,’ he hissed.
‘Really? Which way did you come?’
‘Down the High Street, and turned left. Road works.’
‘You’re lying. There are no road works in the High Street.’
‘I didn’t say there were. We got caught behind road works on the way and had to do a detour.’
‘Yeah? Which way.’
‘Through the Co-op car park.’
‘The driver took a wrong turn and we ended up in the Co-op car park.’
‘I bet,’ he said snidely.
She stewed on his words, thinking back to his disbelief and accusations on other occasions. It caused her to lose track of time and her location.
Roused from her thoughts, she looked blankly at the speaker.
‘I’m sorry. Could you repeat that please?’
The vicar began again:
‘Do you, Celia Marie Joiner take this man……’
He didn’t get any further.
Looking her groom straight in the eye, she said
‘Sorry. No. I don’t.’
With that, she turned on her kitten heels and fled from the church.
