Time to Write : 24th March 2018

Here is our Friday prompt from Rachel:

Petra and Dom had only been dating a few months when he invited her to see his new home. Being ‘out in the sticks’ as he put it,  she was grateful to her mother for the SatNav.
‘You’ll only get lost, ‘ she’d admonished. ‘These things are so easy to use, and you can even choose the voice of your favourite movie star!’
So she entered the relevant post code and here she was, with Brad Pitt telling her to take the second exit at the next roundabout.
The car was purring nicely, and according to the screen, she had a 32 mile journey which would take her less than an hour.
Dom was right about the scenery. It was all undulating hills, open fields and small villages.
Brad interrupted her thoughts.
‘In five hundred yards, turn right.’
She looked quickly at the screen which gave her a road map and arrowed the line she was to follow.
‘Turn right,’ Brad said.
Already indicating, she smoothly maneuvered the vehicle at the junction.

This particular village was really pretty she thought, and as she drove out, she noticed a quaint chapel just off the road.
To her surprise, Brad announced ‘Take the next left and in forty yards you have reached your destination’.
She pulled up in the drive opposite a huge oak door, and Dom came out all smiles with his arms extended.
‘You’re here!’ he beamed.
‘Yeah. Brad’s good at giving directions. This is lovely. How did you find it?’
‘Ah. Yes. Comes with the job I’m afraid. I’m the new vicar.’

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Michael says:

How did we survive without satnavs in the past? So much easier than written directions or as in the case from the TV show F Troop from years ago in answer to the question, “How d I get to the next Indian village?”
“Travel down road and turn right at big rock that look like bear. Then in half mile turn left at big bear that look like rock.”
