Friday Fictioneers; 9th March 2018

This is our prompt this week, provided by Sandra Crook.
The Beamers, Mercs and Jags were lined up in a neat row by the water’s edge, all seeking one-upmanship on their counterparts, snobbery at its worst. Rich bitches in diamonds and furs, toffs in morning dress, all so predictable.
The couple, dressed accordingly for the occasion, were followed by a caravan of narrowboats and cruisers, each decked out in bunting, balloons and ribbons. These were their friends, all invited to share this special day.
One thing was sure, her stuck up parents had not been expecting the bride to make her entrance from the lock!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Anita says:

    That’s a surprise entrance!
I have mentioned an entrance of a different sort in my story!

    • Just read your post Anita. Interesting concept.
I loved this picture as we lived on a narrowboat for three years, and if we’d been getting married, it would have been a perfect setting to arrive in tandem with all our boating friends via the lock! (We got hitched in 1991).

  2. Iain Kelly says:

A novel way to surprise them 🙂

  3. jillyfunnell says:

So the real friends are coming by watrr.

  4. jillyfunnell says:

So the real friends are coming by narrow boat and cruiser.

    • Yep, in convoy up river. Our own experience was getting anywhere could take a few days, so you can imagine the fun and celebrations on the way, a bit like a reverse honeymoon with the party first!

  5. That will show those stuck-up snobs!

  6. subroto says:

Water surprise for the snobs. Parents are probably anti boat people. Fun story,

  7. I don’t care what her parents think, I reckon that’s a brilliant way to arrive! Nice one.

  8. pennygadd51 says:

Yay! Good for her, insisting on arriving by narrow boat. Weddings with a touch of spontaneity about them are always best! Nice story.

  9. granonine says:

BAM! I love the unexpected 🙂

  10. Rowena says:

My aunt and uncle left their wedding in a water taxi.

  11. athling2001 says:

After painting the snobbery and one-uppmanship of the guests, it was refreshing that the bride was strong enough to go her own way. Great story!

  12. lisarey1990 says:

    I love it. Excellent job.
