Daily Post Prompt: 3rd March #Messy

Today’s word prompt is MESSY.

I like to think I am a responsible dog owner in that I clear up after my dog.
You can always tell one even if they don’t have a dog with them as they have bulging pockets, one with biscuits, the other with poo bags. In my case, both have poo bags as we stopped carrying biscuits because Maggie was so intent on keeping her nose on the pocket, she either walked into things or stepped out into the road.

You see piles of varying shades of brown everywhere, despite there being doggie bins in multiple locations.
Before we moved here, one guy approached me and asked if I was going to clear up. I looked at him and said No, as my dog didn’t do it. He was adamant that she had, and I respectfully told him I knew my dog’s 5 h 1 t and the offending broom handle was the wrong colour. Maggie confirmed the issue by performing in front of him, her usual sandy coloured offering, which I cleared up and smugly said ‘ See?’ He did apologise.

With the snow thawing, I am annoyed to see so many piles of abandoned mess messing up the grass and pavements in their messy smelly heaps. There’s no excuse for it as there is a dog bin just around the corner, two more on our estate in the other direction, four in the park, and one at every steps access from the prom to the beach. Last week we saw a black labrador foul the beach, watched by his owner, who made no effort to clear it up. I felt like picking it up myself and handing him a poo bag saying ‘I believe your dog dropped this’.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I hate it when dog owners let their dogs do their business and don’t bother cleaning up. I have, on more than one occasion, confronted such an owner and reminded them that they forgot to clean up after their dog. I even go so far as to offer them a poop bag, which like you, I always carry around. In most cases, the embarrassment works and they scoop up the mess. But some just don’t care and are apparently not bothered by the mess they and their dogs leave behind.

    • We had such a chap on the marina. We knew it was his dog and that he never cleared up. It was poetic justice when he stepped in it. He was later asked to make alternative mooring arrangements, though he wasn’t a liveaboard like us.

  2. Great job! Please check my writing 🙂 I need feedback from good writers like you. It’s very short : https://thebiligualwriter.com.
