What a night!
I have not laughed so much for a while, and any ideas of an early night were soon shot to hell.
Tonight was my second darts match.
I lost my singles game as well as the doubles I was in, and if there were points for the most pathetic score, that accolade was mine with ‘1’ before I was out of the 400s. How embarrassing.
I was having serious trouble with my hands though and found it difficult to grip my darts, so inbetween goes I was massaging them and clenching/unclenching my fists. It didn’t help.
The irony was we didn’t have a full team and neither did they, so by default we actually drew tonight. The rules are really confusing from what I can remember 30 odd years ago, so I don’t try to keep up. I didn’t even have to score tonight.
Double 1 raised it’s head on more than one occasion, and in the first game of pairs (best of three to boot) it took 40 minutes for the winning dart to hit home.
The number of times double 18 or double top got in the way was unbelievable, and sometimes our aim was off completely hitting trebles or the bottom end of the board with 3s, 17s or 19s.
But it was fun.
Hubby picked me up just after 11, two hours after our normal bedtime, so the dog is really confused, though I managed to get her to wee before we shut up for the night.
We’ve got matches Monday and Tuesday next week. Both are away, and Monday’s is a rescheduled game rather than a forfeited match. One of the girls is picking me up so Hubby won’t have to worry.
Guess I’d better start practicing in earnest, or just hold my darts aloft and they can throw the board at me.
I’ve never played darts, for sure it will dangerous for people around if I tried it.
You couldn’t do much worse than I did last night…. I mean a score of 1 ! Still, it’s good fun and a way for me to meet new people in the area.
I would take a draw on a night where I couldn’t throw well (however I got it).
