Weekend Writing Prompt #32 – Reflection

Lovely way to start a weekend Sammi!

It all looked so peaceful.
This world, this upside down world, held everything she was familiar with, yet in reverse.
It offered serenity and quiet, both softly calling to her. She felt herself drawn toward it.
Her mind wandered, and she thought maybe that was where she was meant to be.
She dipped her fingers into the water.
The blue sky and fluffy clouds distorted and disappeared for a moment.
Like life, it was an illusion. Disturb the status quo and things became confused and jumbled, but would eventually settle down.
She pulled her hand back quickly as if burnt.
What had she been thinking?
He stared at his reflection.
Now where had that come from?
He turned the light off and back on again, then continued his morning ritual,
shave, moisturise and a dab of cologne.
Patting his cheeks, he turned the light off and went to work.

In the restroom later, he caught his reflection.
He approached the mirror and scrutinised his face from as many angles as possible.
He’d always taken such good care of himself.
He ate a balanced diet, didn’t drink or smoke, got plenty of exercise.
Brian walked in.
‘What’s up old man?’ he asked jovially.
‘Am I getting fat?’
‘I asked if I was getting fat.’
‘Well………… since your 50th you’ve put on a few pounds but nothing drastic. Why?’
‘I am getting fat then.’
‘I didn’t say that. What’s brought all this on?’
‘This!’ he said stroking his chin. ‘I appear to have two of them.’

My poem may not be about a reflection, but is reflective of emotions.

Rolling over to
Enjoy physical contact,
Fur ripples as
Love filters from fingers to skin.
Ecstasy is imminent,
Closeness assured with
Tummy rubs and tickles:
Inseparable soul mates, this
Owner and dog,
Never alone, always together.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
