We’ve all been there, seen something which is perfect for a friend or member of the family, then when we come to look for it to buy, it’s gone.
Such was my problem today.
I had an idea for a specific someone and as we intended to go to the Saturday market some 30 miles away, I was hopeful at getting exactly what I wanted today.
That would be a No then.
As was Plan B and Plan C.
I asked in a variety of shops and got a negative response in all.
Hubby however would not be deterred and went inside the one I had just come out of.
To be honest, I was a bit miffed he felt he had to check because I had already asked and been told No.
He came out and said he’d spoken to a floor manager rather than one of the counter staff, who had told him that at the end of the Summer, they had almost a full stock of these particular things and they weren’t selling. So to make room for new merchandise, they had all been sold off for less than a pound and were not to be replaced this year.
It was suggested that one of the jewellers had a good selection of ‘friend’ gifts, so we tried there. Nothing I was smitten with, and prices were a little high for my pocket. Not that I would have minded if it had been totally and utterly perfect (yet within reason).
So we went and saw our watch repairer friend to catch up on all the news and she reminded us of a little gift shop tucked away in one of the side roads.
Hubby remembered it as he’d bought a writing case there for me a few Christmases ago which he couldn’t find anywhere else, and I still have it.
Well, it was an Aladdin’s cave of ideas, and there was some lovely stuff, most at reasonable prices. However, throw into the equation that I need to post it and didn’t want to pay the earth or risk it getting damaged, it limited my choice.
We ended up coming away empty handed and walking back to the car, I just happened to glance at a stall in the square that we usually wouldn’t have looked at.
It didn’t have what I was looking for, not even close, but it did have something else that ticked a few of my choice boxes.
