Spreading and filling out….

Oh how Hubby and I miss the boat sometimes!
Life was simple. We didn’t need anything, everything was built in, and although a little cramped at times, we managed OK. The condensation at this time of year was a bummer, but then everyone had that problem, even boats with double glazing.
Cue buying a house, an unfurnished house naturally, and having lived on a boat with everything built in, we didn’t have very much to move.
I am feeling rather like a liquid, in that I am spreading into all vacant space and corners.
Thankfully, now that we have the Man Closet (or Cavette as Hubby is calling it) we have managed to have a little sort out and paint, varnishes and the like have now been evicted from the spare room into said closet. Even better, one of the three plastic shelving units we bought a little while ago also fits in The Closet and is perfect for housing those tins of paint etc.
The lawn mower, (YES we’ve got one!) also fits in but then we haven’t taken it out of the box yet.

This afternoon has been spent putting the bed together and ‘playing’ as to which way to have it in the room. Against the wall could attract poor air circulation and damp as we had on the boat, and it was a close call as to whether it would come out into the room without fouling the door. The two storage cages slide easily underneath.
The mattress is due to come on Thursday, and as we were in one of the major towns today, I got the bedding. Actually I can’t complain at £6 for a duvet, £3 for two pillows, £2 for a pair of pillow cases, £5 for a fitted sheet and £6 for a mattress protector. The duvet cover sets were all kiddies designs or Christmassy so I didn’t get one today, but MSM gave us one which is rather pretty so that will go on the bed and then PHOTO!

That means we are now kitted out and our rooms fully furnished apart from the prospect of a new cooker, which can wait as we’re managing just fine with what we’ve got.
Now all we have to do is find somewhere to hang the dartboard and we’re home and dry.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. I hear you. We’ve been in our house since August and still haven’t cleaned out the big room where we had the movers put everything that we hadn’t already allotted a space to. Some day we hope to actually use that room for living instead of just storage.

    • The rooms here aren’t very big, but that’s a good thing as it means it won’t cost a fortune to heat. Some properties we viewed had huge rooms and with just the two of us it just wasn’t practical, plus we would’ve had to furnish them too!

  2. I am looking forward to seeing the pictures!

  3. We came to Turkey with only 4 boxes each. Lord help me if I ever have to pack up here! Would need a cargo container! Glad you have settled in. Yes looking forward to a few photos.
