Please join me in Sue’s challenge this week.
It was an old farmhouse, nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary.
It was tucked away at the end of a narrow lane surrounded by sycamore trees that had shed their leaves and were stark against the fiery sky.
The victorian lantern shone a welcoming beacon to the tired and bedraggled group as they approached.
Theirs had been a long and arduous journey but thoughts of safe haven had kept them mobile. The strongest had helped the weakest, and miraculously, all fifteen had made it this far.
The porch door opened and a figure wrapped in a blanket peered out into the night.
‘Who’s there?’ he called.
His rescue mission a success, their leader made himself visible.
The old man beamed. He had known there was something special about this guy. He was smart and he’d felt a connection of spirits, rather than fear.
‘You came back! Ah, I see you have some friends. Come in, come in! All are welcome.’
The huge black German Shepherd led his pack of laboratory labradors, collies, beagles and mixed breeds inside. They would be safe here.
