#SoCS Aug. 12/17 – Guess

Your Friday prompt for Stream of Consciousness Saturday is: “guess.” Use it any way you’d like. Enjoy!

The Friday Reminder and Prompt for #SoCS Aug. 12/17

We are convinced there is a place for us. As the song so rightly goes, somewhere a place for us. The problem is where, and that at the moment is anyone’s guess.
We have a lot of gues-timates regarding potential work that needs doing, but so far, these have been quite reasonable and within our budget providing of course the purchase price is right.
To be honest, a lot of the guesswork is an accumulation of experience, watching TV, reading books and manuals, and talking to family.
Naturally wherever possible, we would do any work ourselves and it is only the professionals costs that we are guessing at. Best to over-estimate there than face a shortfall and not have it!

My formula for our own work is
Known figure from past DIY experience, plus 15%

The formula for professionals is:
Double known figure from past experience plus 20% for cost, plus 20% extra for VAT.

A job in the number crunching business has had its advantages as it takes a lot of the guesswork out of everything. But at the end of the day, your guess is as good as mine!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and have a terrible sweet tooth for jelly babies or fruit pastilles. Best friends are Hubby, our dog Maggie, Bro in NZ, MSM and MOH (and his dog). I am also a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! Due to a nightmare of a house sale in 2014, 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat until April 2017. We made strong friendships both on and off the water, and enjoyed swan and duck families for neighbours. Sadly times change and we were once again house hunting until September. We now reside in a small bungalow a short distance from the beach on the Lincolnshire coast.
