Saturday’s Mix–15 July 2017

Thanks Teresa.
As someone who loves to people watch, this is right up my street!

Here is the challenge in summary:
Share the story of a person you know or a made up character in 250 words or less. It can be prose or poetry.

They were a pair, one never without the other, having been part of the circuit for almost twenty years now.
Every night they entertained the crowd: the thrill, the skill, the grace.
Never a foot out of place, even their costumes complimented each other.
Theirs was a match made in heaven, the perfect balance of performing art.
After the applause died, and they returned to their tent, the glitter and war paint came off.
Skirts were folded and put tidily away, the flowing wig placed carefully on the mannequin head, the bridle polished and hung up in its rightful place. Skin was bathed, soothed and smoothed, tender touches shared.

Few knew the circumstances behind the act, the beatings she’d endured at the hands of her deceased husband, the scars now covered by the glitter, makeup, body stockings and wigs.
Who could have guessed of her saviour and protector, the one who turned the tables ‘accidentally’ by nudging one of the heavy supporting posts of the Big Top too far when he just happened to be in the way?
They say elephants never forget, and after hearing the screams and cries for mercy, this one never would.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and have a terrible sweet tooth. Best friends are Hubby, our dog Maggie, Bro in NZ, MSM and MOH (and his dog). I am also a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! Due to a nightmare of a house sale in 2014, 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat until April 2017. We made strong friendships both on and off the water, and enjoyed swan and duck families for neighbours. Sadly times change and we were once again house hunting until September. We now reside in a small bungalow a short distance from the beach on the Lincolnshire coast.
