FFfAW Challenge-Week of June 13, 2017

This week’s photo prompt is provided by The Majesticgoldenrose.

She was awestruck by her surroundings and couldn’t believe her luck.
How would she fit in? Would she be accepted by The Family?
What would be expected of her exactly?
Naturally she had been grilled beforehand, scrutinized to practically an inch of her life as had her family (by several generations no less!) but at least she had been warned, and knew she had nothing to hide, there were no unpleasant skeletons in her ancestry.
She could understand fears of security breaches, especially as to her position.
She smiled. It was showtime!
Donning her apron and laying out the vital tools of her trade, she began her first day as Head Cook to the Duke and Duchess.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

  1. Superb story. Looks like a prelude to what could be a very interesting story or, even a novel.

  2. Lovely story! I could feel her apprehension of starting a new job especially under a Duke and Duchess!

I loved the twist you put into this story. And the words ‘show time’

Good one Di, I like how you left me wondering to the end as to what and who she was.

  6. This is a refreshing take! I enjoyed it very much. Sweet.

her apprehensions are felt by the reader with respect to the first day of her job as a chef. but why is her background scrutinized in detail?
