A bit of romantic fiction I think!
‘You’ve got to be kidding!’
Lynne turned to look at Al who was grinning so much his face was almost cut in two.
‘Aw, go on, be a sport. It’ll be fun!’
‘It’s the wrong colour!’ she said.
‘So? Fancy dress with a twist. The Owl, that’s me, and The Pussy Cat, you, went to sea in a beautiful rowing boat.’
Gingerly, she went down the steps and got in.
Al quickly sat down beside her.
‘Do you know the rest of the poem?’ he asked.
‘Not really. I remember some of it, honey, money and five pound notes. Why?’
From under the bench, he produced a guitar, and started to sing.
‘You fool,’ she laughed. ‘No wonder I love you.’
Sitting back, she saw another parcel under Al’s seat.
‘Ah. The rest of my surprise,’ he said and passed it to her.
Inside was a piggy bank.
Puzzled, she looked at him.
‘I don’t understand.’
Suddenly serious, he looked at her tenderly.
‘My darling Lynne,’ he said. ‘Will you marry me?’
Crudely attached to the pig’s snout with sellotape was a diamond ring.
If like me you couldn’t remember the entire poem, you can find it here:
