12. Mimeomia ((n.) the frustration of knowing how easily you fit into a stereotype, even if you never intended to, even if it’s unfair, even if everyone else feels the same way—each of us trick-or-treating for money and respect and attention, wearing a safe and predictable costume because we’re tired of answering the question, “What are you supposed to be?”)

The woman had sought seclusion to collect her thoughts.
Sitting on the makeshift scaffold platform in the deserted outdoor auditorium, she was suddenly aware of being watched and turned to see a lone wolf, willowy in stature, eying her with interest.
He made no effort to run or hide, taking several steps towards her, his blood-red eyes showing no hint of threat or malice, to drop his ‘gift’ at her feet.
She looked at the undamaged nectarine in amazement. Something so out of character for this beautiful creature, it gave her hope.
She laughed, realising her current despair was insufficient for her to be beaten by her mimeomia.

  1. What a wonderful short. Wolves are gorgeous creatures. I was coming home from University (near forest on a back road) and was approached by a juvenile red wolf it walked with me the whole way home. Just checking me out I guess I didn’t dare touch him though even though he was so close I could have. I will never forget that.
