Well, she is now!
Anyone who owns a dog, especially an un-neutered bitch at ‘that time’, knows how whiffy they can get. We decided against having Maggie spayed as we wanted her to have puppies, but couldn’t find a nice Daddy when she was younger.
We have never had a problem with her being in season and kept her away from dogs when she was as we considered it unfair to them, so we left things as they were.
Although I’m not sure whether she’s having a mini season now at her age, whiffy was too genteel a word for her…… she honked!
In the past, we have secreted her down to the showers after 7pm for the deed, but today it was an outside bucket job.
Hubby filled it with warm water lathered with doggy shampoo and began. She was not impressed, trying to escape the froth and wet stuff.
There is an outside tap here, so the rinse was cold and sprinkly.
Again she was not thrilled, but once the towelling bit started, she thought, well maybe it’s not so bad afterall.
The towel we used was new, and as much use as a chocolate teapot in drying her.
It absorbed the water but not well enough to actually dry her, so we had to resort to a couple of hand towels as well.
MSM had a hair dryer, but it wasn’t as powerful as ours which is with my saucepan lid and cooking tongs in storage, so we did the best we could before bringing her back indoors.
At least it’s warm in the conservatory and it didn’t take long for her to dry, the result being one very fluffy bottomed animal with a wavy black coat and floral aroma.
We did a quick wash of towels and took them down to the dryer on the marina, so they are fluffy and sweet-smelling too!
