Many would cringe at the slightest noise in this place of cold and dank darkness, but his longanimity for his passion held him in good stead.
Few knew of his afflatus for art, and none realised that the exotic painting of a crescent moon in an emerald sky hanging in the Squire’s banquet hall had been his creation.
As he balanced his bulk on the window ledge overlooking the prison turrets, he listened for the familiar patter of rodent feet, brush in hand.
