Thanks Jane.
A beautiful painting, peaceful and serene with some oddities.

For information, the painting is by Hans Thoma and is dated 1914.
Here’s my take which I’ve entitled :
Utopia
The strains of the harp could be heard in all corners of the land, its hypnotic lullaby calling them to prayer.
Handmaidens raised their bowls of holy water to the skies, offering their service and loyalty to the Gods on high, hoping one day to be chosen as the Celestial Musician with the gift of Life. Others gathered in small groups to witness each miracle as it occurred.
No-one grew old here, each life recycled when it reached a certain age, though this was not written and no-one knew exactly what that age was. Children were unnecessary to their way of life, and those whose time was upon them simply recognised the harmonious chords knowing it was their time to follow the music to their destiny.
The elderly couple approached this Earth Angel as her fingers graced the golden strings of her magical instrument, offering Spring’s first flower in return for a special wish.
As the gentle melody washed over the couple and their beloved pet which had filled the inexplicable void of a son they never had, the years melted away and they were once again children.
However, for their pet, each year had been magnified and it had reverted to its ancestors. Time would tell whether a similar wish would ever be granted, leading perhaps unwittingly to a time when the Dinosaurs would inherit the Earth.
A very strange story in response to a very strange painting. That dinosaur is going to take some very imaginative explanations. I like your theory of the family pet, but I’m left wondering why they didn’t get a dog or a cat.
Maybe their pet was an iguana as dogs/cats no longer existed in their perfect world. There certainly seemed to be a lot going on with some beautiful people in such idyllic surroundings. It’s a very strange day here on the marina, so perhaps it’s rubbed off on me!
They don’t look like the kind of people who would want cats sitting on their white robes, or dogs putting muddy paws everywhere. Iguanas don’t stain.
I believe they also don’t need to be taken for walks………… just a thought!
Good logic. The ideal pets for people who only wear long white robes 🙂
🙂 🙂
A most interesting response Di, enjoyed where you took me..
Thanks Michael.
