Another new challenge for me!

I had never been summoned to Number 208 before; I nervously adjusted my coat and hat.

finish-off-friday-17-febI stood outside on the pavement, my feet refusing to move.
The house sat back from the road, surprisingly modest for the owner’s status in the community. I knew who lived here of course, and that made me twice as nervous.
My legs like jelly, my bowels turning to water, I took a step forward, and another, until my finger was within pushing distance of the doorbell.
I didn’t get to ring it.
The door was thrown open to reveal the party was in full swing.
Fifty Freds and Gingers were having a ball, and I had no choice but to join in and begin my song and dance routine from the film ‘ Top Hat ‘.
Damn, the agency had a lot of explaining to do as my Day Job boss burst out laughing.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have an elderly dog called Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Wonderfully playful! Great build up to Top Hat — I can image 50 Freds and Gingers!
Thanks for participating — a thoroughly enjoyable and engaging piece.
