A Christmas Poem for 2016

Images dancing around the tree,
Soft lights and tinsel for all to see,
Faces aglow by candlelight
Everyone happy, merry and bright.

Not all is so overwhelming or grand,
For some, too young to understand
Reasons why Santa does not come
To their house when the ‘Eve is done.

Empty tables, no tree to share,
A present perhaps, wrapped with loving care,
Nothing much, but a gift just the same
With ribbon and bow, and a tag with their name.

In houses stretched across land and sea,
Images differ from tree to tree,
The future for some is not happy and bright,
Yet their faces glow in the candlelight.

It’s Christmas, and my wish to all of you
Is happiness and love when this Day is through:
Not all are surrounded by festive cheer,
But are in the hearts of those held most dear.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and have a terrible sweet tooth. Best friends are Hubby, our dog Maggie, Bro in NZ, MSM and MOH (and his dog). I am also a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! Due to a nightmare of a house sale in 2014, 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat until April 2017. We made strong friendships both on and off the water, and enjoyed swan and duck families for neighbours. Sadly times change and we were once again house hunting until September. We now reside in a small bungalow a short distance from the beach on the Lincolnshire coast.

With Christmas being so hyped up as a time of merriment etc., it is always good to remember that not everybody is able to enjoy it for a variety of reasons. “Peace on earth, and goodwill to all men” is all that is really necessary to spread joy around the world.

    • So true Colin. I for one have a lot to be thankful for this year and realise not everyone has been so lucky. If we can spread a little cheer with a smile, kind word, or even a cup of coffee to a traffic warden on a chilly day, I feel we have done something positive with our day. Not just at Christmas either, but any time of the year.

Nicely written. πŸ™‚ Good to remember what this season ought to be about.
