I have finally managed to access Sue’s photoprompt for this week!
Here’s hoping you can too and check out her original post today here:
Holding pole position, The Fairy called a meeting.
‘This won’t do,’ she said. ‘For years, it’s been tradition that everything be colour co-ordinated down to the last detail. Baubles, dropped icicles, tinsel and cones, but never, NEVER anything like this!’
‘What does it mean?’ asked the robin that was always settled on the higher branches and acted as Second in Command of The Tree Committee.
‘I have no idea. But I’m telling you, it doesn’t fit and I don’t like it. No sirree, I don’t like it at all.’
‘Sshh. Someone’s coming!’
The decorations reflected the twinkly lights in varying hues as the door opened and Simon stepped into the room.
He wasn’t alone.
‘Your gift is in the tree,’ he said. ‘You can’t miss it. It’s the only one of its kind on it.’
Keri peered between the boughs and saw a tiny gold box tied with purple and silver ribbon almost hidden by the other ornaments.
Gingerly reaching in so as not to disturb the beautiful and artful arrangement, Keri unhooked the box and looked into Simon’s eyes.
Carefully removing the ribbon, she opened her gift, and a new light dazzled from within, caught by the flashing lights as they pulsed a rainbow of colour across the ceiling.
The word ‘Oh!’ echoed round the room, and it wasn’t exactly clear whose tears were the brightest………… Keri’s as Simon slipped the diamond ring on her finger, or the Fairy who was a bit of a romantic at heart. She’d reprimand those lights later for such a wanton display!
