Poem without a title

shadow evil

Crawling out of the shadows
Having hidden behind the Gate of Day
You sneak unbidden into my dreams.
Under the cloak of night
You call to me,
A mask of warmth belying your true intent.
You try to lure me away,
With promises of emotional release
But I know your solution is Death.
Just when you think the odds are in your favour
A shout will disperse your misty entity.
Closing ranks, the heat of two bodies
Sandwich me in safety,
In sleep, my Guardians, my Protectors.
A hand stills my quivering torso,
A cold nose rests against my ear,
These two will defend me
And pitch war against those who wish me harm.
Do not think to turn the tables
And cast your evil in their direction.
As One, we will thwart your plans,
And you can never win.
Light will shine or the Dawn will come
And you must retreat into the dark
Where you belong,
Into the recesses of long ago when things were confused.
I was different then, unloved and not whole,
But I have found my destiny.
You are not welcome in it,
And I dismiss you as the nothing you are.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Aha…………… the war against the spirits of death who work under the cover of darkness. However, I must assume that one day, their timing will ensure success, or am I missing the whole point completely? 🙂

    • Hopefully they will not win for a fair few years yet. I have this recurring dream where someone or something is stalking me and makes me cry out. I have found lately that it keeps said spirits at bay by writing it out.

    Powerful piece.
