Here’s an obtuse thought for you.
I mentioned here that a guy was coming to sort out our gear box problem on the 21st.
Sadly, due to surgery, he has had to postpone his visit until the 29th.
I feel like Cinderella, only instead of a glass slipper, we have a 41 foot boat, and the Ball in question is the Stratford Upon Avon River Festival 2-3 July.
Photo: festival 2015.
Last year, we allowed ourselves 3 days to travel the 42 miles, this being 14 miles a day at 4 miles an hour. We wanted to take our time and enjoy the journey, as well as taking into account all the locks on the way, especially as it was all new to us and we didn’t know what we were doing.
If the gear box is fixed on the 29th (MSM is having Maggie for the day as we won’t be able to get her on and off the boat to do her business), it is cutting it extremely fine as to getting there.
If the details are the same as last year, there will be stewards directing arrivals to their allocated position on the day before the festival starts (this being Friday July 1st).
We are therefore hoping to be able to set off early on Thursday (about 8am) and reach the half way point before mooring up, then pressing on to our final destination and arriving Friday afternoon. We’ll then have a leisurely journey back to take in the scenery etc, probably staying out an extra couple of nights for our ‘holiday’.
I documented last year’s trip as below:
