I’m sick of Salads!

To most, diet is a five letter word, SALAD.
I have had a salad once, if not twice, every day for the past ten days, way before I went to my first SW meeting, mainly because it’s been so damn hot and I haven’t wanted to cook.
The pre-packed ingredients varied to include cherry toms, a mixture of lettuce or greens, cabbage, carrots, sweetcorn, peppers, cucumber and radishes, and most recently we have been able to buy twin packs of iceberg lettuce, red cabbage and carrot mix for a pound.
Hubby is not really a fan, and I have found in the past that salad does not help me with weight loss, in fact it goes the other way as I retain the water.
water retentionToday we went shopping, and I managed to walk round the shop on my sticks with Hubby.
I had a list which consisted of fruit, fruit and more fruit (the idea was to price it and get the best deal), plus some pasta, potatoes, mushrooms, milk, meringues and yoghurt. Hubby also treated himself to a 30p bar of plain chocolate of which I had NONE (smugly pats oneself on the back, drooling).

Hubby decided to have a ready-made sweet and sour dish with rice that I could cook in the microwave. We’ve priced this sort of thing before, and for the ingredients I use for my sauce and the chicken or pork we have with it, it’s actually cheaper to buy it.
I fancied a jacket potato, but not with salad, oh please, not with salad.
I used to cook up this wondrous cheese sauce with mushrooms and ham, and we’d have that slathered over a large jacket spud.
Today, just being for me, we cheated and bought 4 frozen ready cooked jacket potatoes which could be heated in the microwave. Instead of my cheese sauce though, I made up a veg medley with red, green and yellow peppers, onions, mushrooms, garlic, a sprinkling of rosemary and a stock cube.
My jacket spud fit nicely on the plate with the mix inside and around it, and I garnished it with 6 cherry tomatoes.
This was a SW ‘free’ meal.
dinnerYou like?
I certainly did, and will do the same tomorrow.

I even did a dessert today, using 5 of my syns (yes Hubby’s laughing again) for the 2 meringue nests I had, plus natural yoghurt and raspberries with a sprinkling of granola cereal on top (another syn). Hubby just had the meringues.

My extra frees today have been 3 plums and a banana.
The good news is I’ve enjoyed my food today, and I’m still not hungry.

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

    That’s good.

the potato is ‘free’? they’re usually counted as bad on diets because they’re so starchy.
I went on a diet of JUST salads once, for over a month. I lost a total of 3 pounds! Even with exercising every day- a LOT of exercising every day. Of course, I gave it up after those extremely disappointing results.

I heartily agree with you about salad! Lettuce tastes of metal to me – I really have to force it down. Blegh.
Good for you staying on track. The main thing is not to feel hungry, like you managed. 🙂

    • Broke the routine this morning and had eggs for breakfast with plans for tomato pasta for our main meal, plus a jacket spud for me. I suppose the secret of success is not getting too bored and ringing the changes. (PMA, Di, PMA!!)
