Because she could

She changed her boyfriends like the wind,
Because she knew she could.
She’d smile and lie, they’d never know,
(As if they thought she would)
She’d go out to eat, pile her plate high,
Because she felt she should,
Then leave half of it to be thrown away,
Despite it tasting good.

She changed her clothes three times a day
Because she knew she could.
Buy something new, not wear it once,
As her husband knew she would.
Looked down on servants as friends advised,
Because she felt she should,
Treating them with undisguised disdain,
Because it made her feel good.

She belittled and insulted all,
Because she knew she could,
Got away with her impossible demands,
Because she felt she would.
But pride cometh before a fall,
As they all knew she should,
No friends or allies rushed to her aid,
She realised this was not good.

No visitors came nor someone to care,
As if she ever could.
Too late she found herself alone,
Though she never felt she would.
No-one at her beck and call,
Surely they all should?
No longer able to live in her home,
And that could not be good.

They got her up and helped her dress,
As she no longer could.
Wheeled her to the residential lounge,
Because she never would.
Fed her drab meals if she was hungry or not,
Because they felt they should,
No thanks was offered from either side,
This was as good as it was going to get.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
