Welcome to my 1500th post!
Following on from my previous post and reiterating how much Hubby and I are fond of hedgehogs, it should come as no surprise that we have several of the ornamental variety on our little shelf, each with a memory attached.
This little guy I purchased for one of our anniversaries.
It’s a ceramic on a metal leaf and I haven’t seen one like it since.
Whilst on a camping holiday in Cornwall, we purchased this one which is made out of coal.
Over the years though, there have been a multitude of Collections available of animals, teddy bears, clowns and other ‘whimsies’ as they are sometimes known.
I bought Hubby one at a cost of £7, and shortly afterwards found one similar at a car boot sale for 50p. I believe they are part of a set of 6, but I never found any others.
Then of course there are the copies, aka rip offs according to Serious Collectors.
I discovered these at another boot sale and got them for a few pence, but still think they’re cute.
Putting quality and replica together, you can see the difference, but to us, it doesn’t matter.
Now these I found purely by chance, and although considerably larger than the rest, picked them up because they were different to anything else we had.
Apart from our Delft, this one is probably the most expensive purchase, which sadly got damaged two moves ago and lost a spine. He looks more like a punk hog!
This little chap combines the ranks of both** of our ‘collectable’ worlds, and was a birthday gift for Hubby around 15 years ago.
** I’ll be writing about those another time.
