I woke up the second time this morning to the honking of swans and geese as they flew overhead, and this song from 1969 came to mind.
I remember the year well as I was just getting into buying singles with my ‘wages’, though this wasn’t one of them as I wasn’t a Stones fan. My ‘friend’ Jane was though, so she bought it and played it to death! Our friendship was very much off and on depending on what she wanted, which is probably why I preferred the B side anyway. It was because of her that I asked my Dad if I could have a new record player for my birthday (as she’d just had one for hers) and was told I could have anything I wanted, provided I saved up for it.
Maggie woke me up quite early, so I got dressed and took her up to the Sog Walk to do the business.
We both went back to bed, and the honking woke me just after 7.30.
Swans have a lower tone honk to geese and are damn loud, especially when everywhere else is quiet.
Of course, shortly after, the Canada geese came in a pitch higher, and then all the ducks started.
Laughing Duck is back ‘from her holidays’, and when a few more joined in to make up the greetings committee for their feathered comrades, it was a full scale cacophony.
This morning, according to the birds, it appeared that Spring was in the air.
From what is happening now (see previous post), er, I don’t think so.
