Not exactly Honky Tonk Women

I woke up the second time this morning to the honking of swans and geese as they flew overhead, and this song from 1969 came to mind.

stonesI remember the year well as I was just getting into buying singles with my ‘wages’, though this wasn’t one of them as I wasn’t a Stones fan. My ‘friend’ Jane was though, so she bought it and played it to death! Our friendship was very much off and on depending on what she wanted, which is probably why I preferred the B side anyway. It was because of her that I asked my Dad if I could have a new record player for my birthday (as she’d just had one for hers) and was told I could have anything I wanted, provided I saved up for it.

Maggie woke me up quite early, so I got dressed and took her up to the Sog Walk to do the business.

We both went back to bed, and the honking woke me just after 7.30.
Swans have a lower tone honk to geese and are damn loud, especially when everywhere else is quiet.
Of course, shortly after, the Canada geese came in a pitch higher, and then all the ducks started.
Laughing Duck is back ‘from her holidays’, and when a few more joined in to make up the greetings committee for their feathered comrades, it was a full scale cacophony.

This morning, according to the birds, it appeared that Spring was in the air.
From what is happening now (see previous post), er, I don’t think so.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

Those Canada Geese will be honking in pure excitement when that arctic blast hits you! 🙂

  2. Funny, but you do get to know the local birds. We don’t have swans, but I can imagine they are sooo loud…they always look so serious.
Two days of sun here – and a bit of dog running. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

  3. I remember the song because I like it.

I am a Stones fan, but that was never a favorite. You’re right, same lesson I learned. And an important one!

    • I liked Angie, but for dancing, it has to be Can’t get No Satisfaction. I have happy memories of a dear friend who could do the perfect Jagger Impression to that.
