Sunday morning,
Half past one,
Restless and hot,
Sleep won’t come.
Tossing and turning,
My mind wide awake,
It’s gone three o’clock,
Let me sleep for god’s sake!
I could read for a bit,
But that wouldn’t be right,
Curling up with my book
Means turning on the light.
So sighing and hoping,
I snuggle back under
The duvet and pillows,
And listen to thunder…
Snores echo beside me
Resounding and deep,
Dog and Hubby united in
Denying me sleep.
Try as I might
I give up at five thirty,
Pull on socks and slippers
And a tee shirt that’s dirty,
Pad down the stairs,
The dog following me
Hoping for treats
As I make myself tea.
The weather is mild here,
A jumper far from my needs,
I watch through the window
As night slowly recedes.
