Rest your silken head across my knee,
Dream doggy dreams of things to be,
See what humans will never see,
Sleep well, my pretty.
All being well the bugs won’t bite
As you drift gently into the night,
Be assured that you’ll be alright
Nothing will get close to harm you.
Snuffle quietly as you sleep,
Rhythmic breathing, slow and deep,
My heart’s so full, I want to weep,
These emotions you raise within me.
You may just be a dog, but I love you dear,
You make me feel safe just by being near,
Who cares most for who is not quite clear
But my world is complete with you in it.
Pets fill our hearts unconditionally,
They give us reasonsΒ to live happily,
Without them, our lives would be so empty,
Sweet Maggie, my Baby, I’m here.

About pensitivity101
I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes!
In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too.
On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts.
From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives.
We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
Very nice! I have no doubt that Maggie knows just how much she is loved. π
Thanks Colin.
Oh poor Maggie. I have she is feeling better soon.
So far, so good today.
Aw, little thing! Here’s hoping she feels better today π
And yes, she may be only a dog, but she is a living, thinking, loving being. I prefer my dogs to many people!
And I really like your poem – well written π
Thanks. I tend to get on better with dogs than people most of the time.
I woke up thinking about Maggie. Is there an update on how she is doing today?
She seems OK today, thanks for asking. We’re back home now, and got straight back into the routine. Her motions are OK and she’s eaten well today. I used mostly her old food and mixed in a little of the new stuff. She also had an egg this morning before we set off for home.
Sometimes a little bit of pumpkin can help their digestion, too. Another thing to try. π
Thanks for the tip.
