Cheers!

In my previous post, I mentioned we would be given a glass of Sangria when we arrived at the residents BBQ later this month.
Looking Sangria up on WIKI, one of the definitions is being a fruit punch with brandy.

This reminds me of my hostess days many years ago when I would make a punch for my guests which was very popular. I even had a proper punch bowl with little cups and a ladle.
punch bowlI made this cocktail for practically every party we gave, but no-one ever got drunk on it, although the bowl was added to frequently during the course of the evening.

This is the recipe I used:

1 bottle ginger wine
2 bottles cheap white sparkling wine
1 bottle red wine
1 half bottle spirit (I used rum or brandy: I never used whiskey, so can’t comment)
4 bottles lemonade

These were all put together in the punchbowl (if your bowl is smaller, use half quantities)

I added sliced oranges, lemons and limes (cucumber works too) for garnish, and in the summer, plenty of ice cubes!

The Secret was in my reserve additions, which was an optional bottle of white wine and nothing more than lemonade.
So, as the evening progressed, the punch actually got weaker in alcohol content but didn’t lose its flavour.
No-one noticed either, especially the alcoholic I was living with who never saw me prepare it, neither did I ever tell him my ‘secret ingredient’.
punchI’ll let you know in due course how our Wine/Canopés and BBQ evenings went.

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! In November 2020, we lost our beloved Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney. We now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of Kizzy, my GSD when Hubby and I first met so had hers done too. On February 24th 2022 we were blessed to find Maya, a 13 week old GSD pup who has made her own place in our hearts. You can follow our training methods, photos and her growth in my blog posts. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
