I have a few posts to go before hitting the magical number 1000, so I’ve decided to set myself a challenge and write a post on something beginning with each letter of the alphabet until I reach 1000. I know this has been done by other people, so forgive me for borrowing the idea.
A is for Abbey.
It is also for Art, so it is nice to be able to combine the two today and share with you some photos taken this morning.
According to the weather forecast, temperatures are going to be in the mid twenties today, so we thought we’d take Maggie for her longest walk nice and early (8.30) and walked up to the Abbey.
We had hoped to be able to go in before Morning Service, but there was a baptism this morning and people were taking their seats so it felt wrong to walk in with the dog in order to light our candles for the Dads and sit quietly for a while.
Hubby went in and lit the candles anyway, but we sat in the porchway listening to the organ playing before the service began.
There had been a wedding a few days ago as there was evidence of paper confetti in the grounds, little horseshoes, petals and bells gently blowing in the breeze amongst the bushes, flagstones, trees and tombstones.
This week, there has also been a craft fayre on and the gates have been decorated with flowers. This morning we could see that they are actually crocheted roses, lilies and sunflowers, so will not wilt or die and forever look pretty. How long they will festoon the gates I don’t know, so I took out the camera and captured them for my own pleasure.
I was once shown how to do crochet roses and made a toilet roll holder for the cottage. That got left behind and I can’t remember exactly how to do it.
These were really lovely though, and looking closer, not done the way I recall.
Guess I shall be experimenting with the wool left over from my little anti rattling squares!
great post and beautiful pictures! I used to know how to do the daisies, but have long forgotten. Good luck with the experimentation!
Thanks!
You are most welcome!
