I wonder if you are missing me,
Who I am or was meant to be.
But times have changed and now I’ll find
I’m probably the furthest from your mind.
I guess I sometimes fleetingly rise
To the surface behind your eyes,
As something triggers a memory
From long ago, that included me.
Things we shared, the plans we made,
Came crashing down when I was betrayed.
The pain at first was unbearable,
I thought I’d done something terrible,
But I got through it, this Feeling Blue,
No doubt Someone Else distracted you.
I followed my dreams, they all went awry,
Demolished my castles built in the sky,
All my Hopes and Wishes, so willing to share,
But not given the chance, you didn’t care.
I did my best, it just wasn’t enough
To smooth things over and cover the rough,
I learned a lesson and picked myself up
Drinking new essence from Life’s rich cup.
Started again, turned things around,
Explored new things, covered new ground.
So as I age and begin to write
This Book of My Life, I see a new light –
And wonder if you remember me,
Who I was, am, or meant to be,
The pages reflect some sorrow and pain
For things as they were cannot be again,
But I’ve moved on, and hope you have too
On this single day I remembered you.
I read that and thought that I was listening to myself saying it. I loved the the two lines “Who I am, or was meant to be” and its partner “Who I was, am, or meant to be”. A nice attention getting pair of complimentary lines. π
Thank you.
Beautifully written, poignant poem π
Thanks.
