Still down, and I’m right pissed off

Once again the WIFI connection from the outside box to the internet has been switched off, and the Marina staff are ‘all right Jack’ as their computers inside the office are working OK.
This is the fourth day we have been ‘unconnected’ and it is not just us. All of the boats on our side of the basin that ‘rely’ on this WIFI are affected. However, the staff are adamant that it is our computers that are at fault and basically ‘tough luck’.

We are annoyed as there are some important things we need to check out on the internet,
we can’t check our emails, neither can we keep abreast of the weather (important on a boat, even if you are in a marina). We have heard that there is a cold snap due to hit us next week, and dammit, we’ve just taken down our double glazing!

Posts are therefore being prepared ‘off line’ and copied into my blog, with the hope that formats etc don’t get screwed up in the process.
My apologies for not giving my Reader contents the necessary attention. It is not practical to sit in the car piggybacking on outside and unsecure networks for hours as we do not have that long a battery life. Working in the laundry is OK for the short term, but the heat has been turned off in there now, so one can get a little chilled as well as uncomfortable trying to work from a chair that is some 20 inches lower that ‘the desk’.

There are times when I hate these smug people who have no concept of the added pressure they are putting on those who need a reliable internet feed.
Looks like we are going to have to find an affordable mobile package, but without having to have a contract or tie it in with a new mobile phone.

We could check out some deals ……… IF WE HAD THE BLOODY INTERNET HERE!

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.

I hope you find a solution soon! It SUCKS not having reliable internet.
Hard to believe they think ALL of your computers are faulty, sounds to me like they’re just being lazy as hell and don’t want to do anything to help fix the problem.

    • Exactly. Hubby has already proven to them that resetting the system doesn’t work, and they need to reboot it. Once again, someone has turned the damn thing off, and no-one seems to know which button it is. Makes me see red.
OK, it is free when it’s working, but I think we’ve just reached the end of our tether with its unreliability and no back up from the staff who basically haven’t a clue how it works anyway (so long as they can play their games OK).

That’s too bad. I know how frustrating that can be. I had a similar situation on the tuna boat I used to work on. I really liked that job except for the fact that the email was completely unreliable and I NEEDED to have at least email (never mind internet) to send fisheries reports, etc. Company just kept telling me “no problem”. Yeah, no problem for THEM, since it was MY license that would get yanked for not sending those reports!
I eventually had to quit that job over the email situation. They went and got a new computer, never mind me telling them a million times the problem was NOT with the computer but with the email server!
I wish they would fix it, I wouldn’t mind going back over there to work.

  2. Ugh, that sounds frustrating!
