‘Twas the Week Before Christmas……..

Today we did our final Christmas shopping. That is, our Ten Pound Dash, where we each have a tenner and go off in different directions for an hour or so to buy little things for each other to put under the tree.tennerWe’re early this year as town is getting so busy, shopping of any description will become extremely unpleasant, with nowhere to park, everyone in a frantic hurry and hostile with it. As this is the fun bit of Christmas for us, we wanted to enjoy it rather than get frustrated like we did last year. This wasn’t because there was nothing left to buy, but rather there were just so many people, we were forever being jostled, slammed into with trolleys or wheeled baskets, couldn’t get to the shelves to browse and basically wanted to get it all over and done with! (How we managed to get what we did, I’ll never know, but Christmas Day 2012 was still good.)panic‘Panic’ is beginning to settle in already as store opening times over the festive season and New Year have been posted in the windows and people are realising that the supermarkets are closed for 2 days. (Whatever did we do before 24 hour opening or Sunday shopping?) We won’t go shopping again now until after the holidays, and my attitude is that if I haven’t got it, that’s just too bad.

It was market day today. We’re lucky in that we have one on Wednesdays and Saturdays, though they are not the same traders. This was a pity as sadly, one of the things I wanted is apparently only available at the Saturday market. Still I was pleased with everything else I got as I managed to pick up loads of little things for pence, and have spent the majority of the afternoon wrapping them. Half of my fun is disguising the shapes, or putting little cryptic clues on the labels. Hubby reads my blog, so I’m not giving anything away, let’s just say there will be quite a few parcels for him under the tree on the 25th, and no, I did not exceed my £10.

I confess though that I did have a bit of a dilemma, and had to send him a text message for advice. Four messages later, he decided to join me in the shop to see for himself, so there was a bit of a hasty cover up in my basket so that he couldn’t see any other goodies that may have been intended for him.bone 2monkey

Can you guess which one we decided on for the dog?

About pensitivity101

I am a retired number cruncher with a vivid imagination and wacky sense of humour which extends to short stories and poetry. I love to cook and am a bit of a dog whisperer as I get on better with them than people sometimes! We have recently lost our beloved dog Maggie who adopted us as a 7 week old pup in March 2005. We decided to have a photo put on canvas as we had for her predecessor Barney, and now have three pictures of our fur babies on the wall as we found a snapshot of my GSD so had hers done too. From 2014 to 2017 'Home' was a 41 foot narrow boat where we made strong friendships both on and off the water. We were close to nature enjoying swan and duck families for neighbours, and it was a fascinating chapter in our lives. We now reside in a small bungalow on the Lincolnshire coast where we have forged new friendships and interests.
